Hello Friends, I was also facing same issue while using moto e 1st generation when ever I used to get any messages from my service provider talk back used to go silent.
Just shut down your mobile pressing power button twice a day for around 10 to 15 days regularly may be it will start reading messages . It has helped me so try it out.
