I'm neither defending nor attacking the infamous use of "gay," but i am trying
to be the voice of reason.
I know everyone's too blinded with rage to actually read the post that started
all these fun and games, but here it is again: "ok it may sound gay but i
want to know what other people out there think...I'd like to know everyone's
favorite MMouse song and why...."
So, "gay" refers to his desire to know what everyone's fave song is, not as a
description of their worst song as the letter referenced below claims, so
"bad, unpleasant, not agreeable" would be a stretch. essentially, he wants to
know what makes people happy -- now is that so wrong?
admittedly, the connotation of "gay" in this usage is not terribly positive,
but it's not nearly as extreme as some others would have us think. At worst,
it's an insensitive usage. But then again, the line from tundra/desert
"...every kind-hearted banker, i don't think there is one" doesn't cast my
profession in the most positive of lights, but you don't see me firing off
angry missives to isaac.
and don't go writing that it's ridiculous to compare the plight of bankers
with that of homosexuals, because i realize that. i'm just trying to say that
one should take into account the degree of malicious intent before getting all
fired up about something. or at least take ten deep breaths before responding.
