From: "Bobby Nath" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> > i think most punk/indie rock kids prematurely assume that if a band has any > christian associations or background, that it coincidentally implies their > narrow-mindedness and/or homophobia. Not true - at least, not true of most indie enthusiasts. Everyone knows the main couple in Low are devout Mormons. Moby is a big ole Christian. The singer for Sunny Day Real Estate is a huge Christian, and so is Gordon Gano (Violent Femmes singer). Um... I'm sure there are more but those are the most prominent I can think of, and I've never heard anyone say "Well, Low are a bunch of nasty Christians, you know". Now, when a band sings nothing but songs about Jesus, and appears to be intentionally imitating a genre as if to say "Look kids, Christians can be 'cool' too!", then yes, there is a lot of skepticism. > b (religion-ism and atheism are pretty much the same bag of flaming > dog-crap, the way i see it) : * I agree that religion and atheism are essentially the same, since both imply a belief (the former that there DEFINITELY IS a god, the latter that there DEFINITELY ISN'T), but as a man of gods myself, I take exception to the sentiment. Sure, I may "worship" by smoking pot and listening to Roy Montgomery, but that doesn't mean I'm any less serious about the big ole energy-pattern we call "gods". np:Roy Montgomery, "Fantasia on a Theme by Sandy Bull" -- ...extensive liner notes and make-believe alien languages...
