hmm, i don't see how that's possible, mod_perl will not compile without
it.

i just tried with the same Makefile.PL options and Perl version, no
problems.

what does this print:

% nm /apache_1.3.14/src/httpd | grep boot_

and

% nm /apache_1.3.14/src/httpd | grep xs_init
