Perhaps you have an old libapreq which did not handle memory well--install the latest Apache::Request from CPAN and see if your memory usage improves. If not, we'll need more info: what is the size of the process when started? ...what kinds of requests cause it to grow? ...how much does it grow each time? ...what line causes the memory to jump, if any (step through with Apache::DB watching memory use to test)?
