This is maybe a bad news since we have been runing hundreds of RH Linux boxes. Can you show me more reasons why mod_perl support on Linux are bad? Thanks.

Its not the linux platform, its the linux distribution and how each distribution supports mod perl

It also has nothing to do with with the architecture or stability - it has to do with the frequency of updates.

When modperl is updated, FreeBSD has the 'port' updated that day, thanks to Philip.
Within a week, Ubuntu (linux) has a distribution.

But FreeBSD and Ubuntu are a large exception to the rule:

RedHat tends to be way behind -- i believe their packages are still 2.0.2 for RHEL & Fedora -- that version was released in October 2005, vs 2.0.3 which was November 28, 2006 . I couldn't find the info on the current CentOS, but the last version was 2.02.

Suse is offering 2.02 too. So is OpenSuse.

Debian , no big surprise, is a complete shame -- they offer 1.999.21 as the mod_perl distribution in their system

My point is this -- If you have someone internally who will build RPMs for your setup, or have a system to build from source, then you're fine. There's no issue with the way perl runs on linux -- the issue is the support the distros have for it. If you're running linux, you're building mod_perl from source. Otherwise, ModPerl on linux is just a shame. The distros are just not supporting it.
