IIRC there were some arguments against running threaded perl on FreeBSD. But I remember if the issue was specific to the OS. So if you're installing Apache 1.3 off ports chances are the default config is for non-threaded mode.

You may get a much more technical response if you asked the freebsd mailing list. It's very happening over there.
