Because the proxy only sees a single host (the black box), I would doubt it's the proxy - I would check your black box setup works by accessing it directly with a browser.
The first line in the file cache is an
alpha-numerical string,
is this string containning a reference to the host? err, what
this string represent?
It represents the URL of the resource.
