A filmed version of the Patricia Highsmith book which rumour says is great
but which common sense suggests will suffer from the presence of Matt Dillon
the acting potato.
As pointed out by our correspondent in the Southern Hemisphere, the casting
is the wrong way round - Jude plays the hapless nice chap and Matt plays the
sympathetic psychotic misanthrope.
Not a patch on Purple Noon which is the same basic story but features Alain
Delon. Which would you choose?
>By the way Ill be in Palm Springs this weekend,
Palm Springs is jammed with good things to do. At the risk of revealing
trade secrets, the thrift shopping excels. Great modern furniture shops on
the North end of the main drag. And make time for the palms to pine tramway,
a beautiful cable car ride from an ultra-cool building to a very 60's ski
chalet in the mountains where one drinks hot toddies by the fire.
They are gutting and modernising the place so go now if you aren't scared of
heights.
The Rodeway Inn has a nice tiki motif and there's a load of beautiful modern
architecture - pick up Palm Springs Modern coffee table book, or whatever
it's called before you go, and tour the Lautners.
