Actually Dave, it was Doug - a good friend of mine - who wrote for me to
elaborate. But thanks. No debate, really, just a story or two.

Ok, after thinking about it, there have been actually 2 times, not 1, that
I've had to have someone pick me and the scooter up when I was out and
about, which is what I constitute as "being let down". Both times happened
within a few months and only after having my motor "completely rebuilt by
the reliable shop in town". The first time, I threw a ring on the newly
run-in piston while going only 50mph in 45F degree weather on the Seattle
Viaduct at 4am. (Side note, I drove my Jet for nearly 1 year with frozen
rings and a completely blown seal, the one that'll make it smoke too much -
it wasn't fast, but it got me there every day.) I got a lift home from my
friend who was borrowing my Primavera, got in the Falcon Ranchero, and
picked up the Jet at 6am. Made it to Seattle Scooter Insanity at 10am - on
the Vespa. The second time, I was riding around with my friend (she was
on her LI 150) and everything having anything to do with the rear axle
stripped out. This was, what, 3 years ago?

But yes, just like *any* scooter owner - of a P-series or other Vespa,
Serveta or Innocenti - I've also had my "hey my xyz cable broke" or "for
some reason it just doesn't want to go to the Victoria Rally" days and the
very strange "my carb and manifold are warped for no reason after 19 years"
(can't blame that on the Spaniards, it's the same works as the Italian
model). But whenever I wanna ride to *work* it's there for me. OH - unless
you're Doug Avery borrowing the bike and the gas runs out or a chunk of
stuff gets lodged in the main jet at King's Classic...ha ha ha.

...Syd
1980 SERVETA Jet200 and damn proud...

ps. Doug can't wait to see you this weekend!
ps to the ps. When ya gettin' the SX150 going, Doug?

pss. Any SF pre-NYE festivities on Thursday?
