Why should anyone *have* to lock their bikes in their own personal garage? I
probably would if others in my apartment building had access, but... I guess
that's the way of the world these days. But anyway, I just wanted to say
that yes, it's possible to have a "distinctive and rare" bike stolen in the
middle of the day - any bike. My Primavera was stolen in the middle of the
work day - you know, most of the people in the neighborhood are at WORK, not
home - while my neighbors who weren't working, but were outside, watched.
These kids somehow maneuvered my scooter sans seat, cables, connected wires
around my roommate's P200 (it was a narrow walkway between a wall and the
house & I couldn't do it) and were running it back and forth trying to start
it. My neighbors said "We thought it might be one of your friends working on
a bike so we didn't do or say anything until after they took off down the
hill on it." So yes, it's possible. It's also possible to have a
home-garaged bike(s) stolen if the people break in through the sliding glass
door and get into the garage. Just ask Christophe. But still, if it's a
private garage, why would anyone think to lock their scooter(s) down -
unless you're neurotic about it or had a similar thing happen before?
My question too, is - why not harass the guard back? God, I would. I'd fight
like mad to get something like my Vespa or Lambretta back no matter what
shape it's in.
