<<that is where the Mod connection ends.>>
said Biff about Mover.
** Well, I find Mod in itself hard to talk about nowadays. Those guys --
'the MODS' -- were cool in the 60s for a few years; but they soon weren't
Mods. I mean, when I was a Mod in '86, what now goes on downstairs at the
Mousetrap would have been laughed at -- though then, and now, it is what I
like the most! You know. Mods liking Psych is like talking about Teddy Boys
liking The Beatles. Wasn't Mod dated by '64???!! Now I'm not being pedantic,
but what with every Mod having a different outlook on what Mod is, isn't it
hard to classify??
The way Jack and Fran looked on Friday night looked very much how I looked
in '88 when I was naievely classifying myself as a 'Hippy' -- Buff, Moby,
Gene ... And as Sara, my lovely lady, said, they looked better for it. I
look forward to seeing their new act -- they won't be mod, but so bully
what? I think MOver on their Mod Lang Cd have an image still. I remember The
Event hitting these shores in '90 (on record) and thinking man -- FUCK, how
could a band attempt to work out The Birds from a video clip????? (Don't
mention The Surrounds -- Ha ha!!).
What is Mod now? The essence? Aren't the ex-mods who push forward, looking
into new ideas, the very thing. Well, fuck me, I'm gonna play my guitar now
with an ex-Nuthin and a member of Bronco Bullfrog and think we're nothin'
but old fashioned.
