I just wanted to comment on a few things that concern me in light of recent Modslist incidents. First, Having a good friend who is Straight Edge, the misconceptions about the lifestyle posted on this list bear clearing up. I am not straight edge, but I can see the logic in it as a lifestyle choice although it is quite a strict standard. Straight Edge basically means actively abstaining from drugs, alchohol, and promiscuous sex. Some SxEr's are vegan, some are not (my friend) The concept was a reaction to what some perceived as a nihilistic and self destructive path being carved out by the punk scene of the mid to late 80's, and it became a movement within the post-punk and hardcore scenes that were emerging and are still developing today. Straight Edgers aren't as militant as most people think..if you did'nt ask my friend Ian about his beliefs, you probably would'nt know he's S.E. Straight Edge isn't hypocritical, just different. Secondly, Modskin never stated that he was having a sexuality crisis..he did'nt even really say why he left, he just did.
