Ooops... I nearly forget to answer THIS one... ----- Original Message ----- From: jason tinkey <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> | Pablo de la Cruz wrote: | > By the way, was any American (notice that I include *my* Spanish | > Americans) creating calculating machines or anything more complex | > than an axe handle in 1642? I thought so. You rookies. ;-) | | Pablo, give your countrymen some credit! In 1642, the Spanish were very | proficent at annihilating ancient civilizations in the "New World". (The | British weren't too bad at it, either!) | | And whenever I go to Florida, I wonder why they even bothered... | | Sure, they killed off all of the natives with smallpox, but they ended | up introducing syphillis to Europe. So, if it's true that Hitler went | crazy due to syphillitic infection, then WW2 is all your fault. What can | I say, logic dictates that you be blamed. A spotless display of both logic and historic insight, if you ask *me*. It's funny that at school in Spain teach us that the ignorant Injuns were very keen in swapping gold for mirrors and beads... Children might become oh so much wiser if the truth of what was really being swapped was shoven into their little faces. However, a couple of minor aberrations tarnish the crystal clearness of your dissertation: A) If it's true that Spaniards imported the disease from the Americas, then it's of American origin - then, in all logic, America is guilty of the WWII!... but then, B) The Columbian introduction of the disease is still to be proven. There's lots of theories denying it, and the behaviour of many of Europe's most relevant historic figures suggest heavily that WE were syphilitic before YOU. So you are innocent in the end. Sleep well, young Americans... OK, now I'm sure we have a total off-topic here. Glad to have been of help! Come on, take me to the sin bin... ---Pablo [EMAIL PROTECTED] _________________________________________________________ Enlighten your in-box. http://www.topica.com/t/15
