Argh, pinned as a fashion whore yuppie before I could even say a word..
As I said.. the substance of this new mod culture I am sure is
lacking.. but I still can't understand this behavior to expect new
mods to listen to old mod music. While mod's roots are in blues,
soul, and jazz one should pigeon hole a social movement to those two
things. Music evolves, cultures evolve, mod will evolve with it. I
just can't take this 'please fill out your, 'are you a mod survey'
and return it to the head face for approval.." More or less I think
its fair to say that people today can adopt the mod look, feel, and
way of living and thinking and apply it to today's society and daily
life trials. Otherwise, you might as just say mod was as corny as
the Swing movement revival. I see it now.. "Dirty Dancing" Starring
PHIL DANIELS!
I guess a question I have for you is this.. What is the difference
between a Yuppie and a Mod? Intelligence and Class. Yuppies have no
class, they have no look.. their look is the present look.. and yes
if that present look is mod.. well then you say.. "Look a yuppie
dressed like a mod." I don't really go for the argument. If you
can't tell the difference between a mod and yuppie then you are
either. 1. Blind, 2. Stupid, 3, a Yuppie (see no. 2), People who are
in to Mod and britpop are pretty much experts at dressing in a way to
fit into normal society but make themselves known to others who have
similar interests. Goofy, but that's how humans are.. I see a
million men in suits a day.. I don't assume they are mod.. But add a
nice cut, some attitude, a parka maybe, type of drink being drank,
shoes, and conversation easily lead me to the conclusion that someone
is or isn't a mod and not a yuppie. I think normal humans usually go
about figuring out what people are into in this fashion all the
time.. or is it just me who doesn't make mass assumptions based on
one thing? Yes this is America, I know.. but people still are pretty
private about their lives and don't wear there stances and views on
their shoulders. Why, because its a distraction from everyday life.
Hense the reason why I don't wear a suit to work every day or dress
mod every day is because I would distract my co-workers.. I would be
fielded with questions.. WHY WHY, whats that.. Who are you... you
are weird.. why do you do that.. Fuck that.. I would rather just
dance naked in the privacy of my own home.. Okay.. not really but I
think you get my point.. actually i am not sure if I even got my
point.. I really just wanted to say "Dance naked in the privacy of my
own home.." and justify it with mod. Oh I think I have said to much
;)
Now as for fashion helping a social subculture. Well last time I
went suit shopping the most popular suits where 3 and 4 button suits.
Get to armani and you got 5 button (which I have to say.. look very
good..) Its little things like that that are what I am talking
about.. Trust me as for shoes we are pretty far from mod.. everything
is 'frankensteined' out. but for the most parts the suits are
becoming slimmer, tighter, and much more buttons. Looking more
modish. Haircuts.. the new cuts today are very boyish and very mod
looking.
So when I say I think mod is coming back I don't think it will be on
a commercial level.. The day I see puffy on a scoot.. Wait he has a
scoot.. Okay the day I see Martha Stewart on a Scoot, shit wait she
has one too.. Okay the day I see the Back Street Boys on Scoots is
the day that we should all purchase guns.. No..but you know what I am
getting back to.. A little exposure to pop culture is good.. as long
as it is just enough to catch someones curiosity. Once that
curiosity is caught.. they then will explore all the beautiful music
and culture that mod has been and always will be about. And thats
not such a bad thing.
