Before you take Alan Flusser's work too seriously, have a look at a picture 
of the man. Pause for thought.

A lot of the rules described in this and other conservative versions of 
classic menswear do not translate to the mod world - the very idea of 
dressing to suit your body style for instance (is this even a consideration 
when assembling a mod uniform?) Plus a basic concept that Flusser et al buy 
into is that men's style peaked in the 30's, with the nipped waist and wide 
shoulder, and ergo their concept of the rules does not leave much room for 
say, discussion of an appropriate tie length for hipster trousers.

That said I appreciate the occasional tidbit of info contained within and 
you've got to love the matching sock/pocket square concept.
