Mingus is genius, of course. As a bass player, it's humbling to hear how his compositional skills transcend the limitations of an upright bass. I actually just picked up an interesting 45 by his son Eric. The A-side is a cool vocal and bass song called "How I Miss My Gun" that owes alot to the NYC poetry scene.
