You might be thinking of one of two pieces by Eero Aarnio. The first is the
Ball Chair, which is white fiberglass w/a variety of interior cloth
covering. The second, the Egg Chair, is transparent Lucite chair mounted
from the ceiling complete with an interior cushion.
A German company called Adelta (http://www.adelta.de) reproduces both these
pieces under license of the man himself. They only have a limited number of
US distributors (2, I think), and won't tell you how much they cost. You can
send away for a catalogue, but that won't tell you how much they cost
either. Although the Ball Chair I've never seen for sale, a Portland, OR
store does stock the Egg Chair repro's for approx. $4,000, comparable,
unless your extremely resourceful (see: lucky) what you'd pay for an
original in good condition.
Hope this helps!
Doug
