Fantastic site, true, but I have a better version that fits in my pocket.
Bit dated mind - the Japan AirLines "Gentlemen's Guide to London" published
circa 1967. Features maps and reviews of tailors ("This Carnaby Street
fixture produces clothes for the gentleman who wishes to keep up with his
"way-out" son"), discotheques ("will provide you with an attractive dancing
partner if neccesary") and sundries ("featuring sausages of pre-war
dimensions.") Of course no mention of anything outside of Soho and environs,
quite rightly too.
I may just post snippets from this incredible text randomly when the fancy
takes me.
Incidentally "The Sausages of Pre-War Dimensions" is in my opinion a great
name for a lost psych band.
