Should have guessed that he was a Mod or that he was a London Mod from the
hair Julian?
What is the distinction?
(I was going to get my sidies chopped today but now you have me worried that
I'm geographically identifiable).

Well, back from Hamburg where I had an excellent week - we checked
out
Va-Va-Voom at the Molotow on the Reeperbahn - a delapidated (but
nicely so)
basement club - where they were having an excellent soul and beat
special.
Only mod (except the DJ) in the place happened to be from London,
though
should have guessed from the hair - would have been nice if he'd
bothered
dancing to more than 2 songs all night though.
Great mix of music - in style not that different to, say, the
Brighton Beach
back room - a bit of latin, lot of soul, bit of r'n'b, bit of beat
(though
no psyche and freakbeat - the club has different themes each week) -
but
what was nice was the unfamiliarity of the tunes, and also the fact
that
'normal' punters were dancing to them at 4 in the morning. Also
checked out
a performance of Wilde's 'An Ideal Husband' at The English Theatre
and tried
to work out what TV show half the actors had appeared on, and many
cocktail
bar happy hours - the best being the last (in some business type
hotel -
must have ended up with half a mint bush in my Mojito).
The worst part was finding a vintage menswear shop while looking for
a bin
(on Turnerstrasse in St.Pauli in case you find yourself there) which
- it
being Easter weekend and only finding in on the last day - I never
got to go
into, but in the window were vintage Cardin ties, cuff-links, and
through
the window nothing but suits and vintage shirts (in packets). I can
only
console myself with the thought that there was nothing there. It
also didn't
look cheap.
