Actually I was mocking Popscene. I find it quite a fun club to go to and
just act stupid at.. I have to admit.. I like my Duran Duran in small
dosages.. as well as my Blur.. But isn't that how it always is. You mock
the place you find yourself at most of the time. We never really set out
to go to popscene.. we just would aways end up there.. playing pool.. But
you know how it is in SF.. You live there and you realize you got only a
few choices for entertainment. There is lots of stuff going on.. but after
you live there for 4 years.. you just don't get as excited as you use too.
1. Techno Clubs (take your pick)
Same old same old.. Its the new craze! This Electronic Music stuff..
Wow... I say.. Fuck it, I can't take any more house music.. or Ricky Martin
wannabes.
2. Neighborhood Dive (IE: Nok Nok lower Haight)
Everyone is just too lazy to find a new bar.. You are one of them.
3. Fu Fu Bars (Tonga Room @ Fairmont)
13 Dollar rum bowls.. and live japanese cover band.. and 30 year olds
dancing to Backstreet Boy covers.. I wouldn't have it any other way.
4. Jazz Clubs
Not really Jazz clubs.. Kahki Yuppi hang outs.. Need I say more.. But
hell.. enjoy the music.. and the drinks..
5. Brit/mod clubs
Only 1 exists.. Lovely Popscene. Its really all you got.. unless you are
fine with playing pool all night at the unattended Cafe Du Nord Mod nights
that were happening or not happening. You make the best of it.. Get
pissed, and have fun.. And hell we all know the words to Hungry Like the Wolf.
Must have been an interesting combo.. In the earlier days of that place
there wasn't a big scooter scene hanging out there.. but now have things
changed?
Dan don't be embarrassed.. thats about as good as it gets in SF. And thats
not your fault..
