Hello, people!
Any of you uk modslisters seen 'Snatch' yet?
It's really quite good, but rather darker than 'Lock Stock and Two Smoking
Barrells'. the editing is at breakneck speed and very effective, you'll come
out of the cinema with your head reeling, and the plot is the typical
'comedy of errors' confusion, with loads of different characters - yardies,
orthodox jews in the diamond trade, illegal boxing promoters, a mad ex-KGB
Russian and a campsite of Irish gypsies.
>From a clothing point of view, evidently the contrast shirt will be in this
autumn - several characters in the film were wearing them, and when we came
out of the cinema we looked in the window of a tailors and saw a couple of
contrast shirts in his window! It's quite amusing as these shirts have been
worn on the mod scene for yonks (by contrast shirt - and i think i may have
got the name wrong!- i mean a coloured shirt, usually royal or navy blue,
with white colour and cuffs. camel coats, too, will no doubt be big this
autumn, so i'll be seeing you walking up Southend Pier, Arfur Daly style.
Note for the girls: As Guy Ritchie fell out with Nick Moran, there are sadly
no fit blokes in Snatch, unless that great unwashed jessy Brad Pitt gets
your mojo working.
I don't care if this film is considered to be 'mod' or not - it's clever and
Ritchie still seems to be obsessed with 'The Italian Job'. Only he has the
sense not to do a remake of that film (and if you want a 60's crime-romp,
then you're better off watching 'TIJ', or Gangster #1, i spose)
