I'd only add Dan, that it's giving up on the idea that music can
creatively progress - in much the same way as 'classical' music fans
have pretty much given up, apart from a minority, on progression in what
they listen to - and I'm quite comfortable in admitting hypocrisy here
because my taste in jazz for instance is almost totally locked in the
60s. It's not as if the Embrooks, or the Nick Rossi set, great as they
are, are opening new creative horizons, which I'm sure was what was
meant by 'new'. And yeah, sure, like classical fans, we can spend our
whole lives listening to an archive of music, but it's a bit head in the
sand.
