I think the DJ has to be the most open of all. You guys have to cater to
the crowd a little.
I personally can't see why an obscure 60's freakbeat would offend anyone but
people do love the familiarity like was mentioned earlier, it's human
nature.
In Boston there's a purist mod night and a mixable night by the same
DJ(s)... and I like both. :)

Subject: Open Minded

A similar thread over at Bespoke got me thinking. I've noticed a lot of
people here talking about being open minded when it comes to music and
not limiting yourselves, but at the same time when I spin an obscured
60s freakbeat/psych record at the clubs the floor clears. Many times
these may be tracks that fill floors in other parts of the world. But,
if it's a top 40 60s track that everybody knows they will fill the floor
no matter how bad and undancable("Stepping Stone"). Some of the clubs
that spin old records and newer "britpop" songs tend to be a prime
example of this. I know because I used to spin at a club like that and
the crowd didn't take too kindly to something they weren't too familiar
with, but a Blur or Suede song would never fail to fill. Why is this?
Sounds like open minded individuals closing their minds to to me.
Opinions?

Sean
