I'm not much of a Northern Soul connoisseur, myself, I found the comp to be the low point in the first series of Decca Scene comps (they did get worse). I don't know, I really found nothing mindblowing about it, the Foundations "Nothing But a Heartache" has gotten a little boring, and digging up a David Essex pop track did sound like the scraping of the barrell as Mark pointed out. Not my cup of tea, and I would certainly recommend the Freakbeat, Psychedelic, R&B, and Mod (not volume 2) Scenes in the series.
By the way, that's Billie Davis who's pictured on the back of the CD, and not Abbie Davis. Actually, I got that Billie Davis track "Billy Sunshine" with a picture sleeve for $2 right before the comp came out!
