THE ORCHID HIGHWAY

A bomb-blast of Amped-Up Rock & Roll forged by two years in the UK
and five Canadian tours, The Orchids have a reputation as an
electrifying live act, with a history of producing stunning events
(including "The Late Night Pop Tart Breakfast" & "The Naughty
Weekend" - NMW 2001's Official After-Party). Opiate, an advance track
from their forthcoming CD produced by Steven Drake (Odds, Static in
Stereo, Tragically Hip) has now been released on Bongobeat Records'
"Driving In The Rain 3Am" compilation in Canada, the US and most
recently the UK where The Orchid Highway have received favorable
comparisons to The Zombies in the latest issue of the UK magazine
"Classic Rock".

BRUNDLEFLY

In 1998 Limblifter bassist Ian Somers left to focus on what had,
until then- been a side project. In the years since, Brundlefly has
released two albums and developed an audience on both sides of the
border. Influenced by UK melancholy and a "vulnerable but cool"
songwriting approach - in Brundlefly Somers has found himself the
ideal unit to showcase his writing and "quaky - shaky" vocals. Their
latest offering "By The Way" produced by Todd Simko (Pure, Jordy
Birch's Funmachine) and distribution through tonic, Page, and EMI -
and a video for "Revolution" has given them lots of ammunition for a
ground assault on Canadian and US targets.

STAR COLLECTOR

A hi-watt quartet inspired by vintage British modernists, Star
Collector have made regular stops on the underground for years. With
"Black-Eyed Soul", the band's second release co-produced & mixed by
Dean Maher (Mudvayne, Elton John, Sloan) mainstream radio stations
couldn't resist having some fun with their transmitters, and "So
Beautiful", their lead off single was playlisted on The Wolf in
Nanaimo for 13 weeks and peaked at #2. The album has also received
airplay on CFOX, XFM, CBC, Extreme (Victoria) and many campus &
community stations that continue to champion the band. Now as the
band records their 3rd effort, with Kevin Kane (Grapes of Wrath)
onboard as producer, and with a growing regional fanbase - these boys
may be ready to go over the top!

DJ TODD TOMORROW

One of this city's most recognizable DJ's, Todd Tomorrow is the
mastermind behind recent Bollywood and Retro Porn themed club nights.
His mixed bag of uptempo lounge, bossa nova, deep house, soul funk
and Japanese Pop has made Tomorrow a drug of choice at today's top
venues including Shine, Sonar and even the Fox Theatre, and has
established him as the soundtrack to many stylish after-hours events.
(That party you really wish you hadn't missed - Todd was spinning.)
Todd has been busy lately, recording his debut CD - but not so busy
that he hasn't helped launch SHOTGUN, Vancouver's Original Soul Club!

VENUS EYE TRAP

Venus Eye Trap visuals grew out of The Orchid Highway's ambition to
cause a stir, to make a scene - to trash the drumkit and play Rock &
Roll - LOUD! Never content with black backdrops and shoegazing, they
took inspiration from the pioneers of rock staging - and soon
collected a busload of movie, slide and overhead projectors, dozens
of screens - and built 7 foot video wall towers... With more work
than they could handle, The Orchids' contracted out. Enter Venus Eye
Trap - who will be showcasing their GOOD TRIP & BAD TRIP ROOMS this
Saturday at AMPED-UP!

CASS KING AS MC

Cass King is a raconteur: A singer of stories, a teller of songs. She
is a dancer, a musician, a producer of cabarets, a fool. Her book is
called "berlesque: Cabaret Songs for the Fin Deux Millennium." Cass
King has performed at SXSW, Word On the Street, the Seattle Poetry
Festival, and the Du Maurier International Jazz Festival. She has
been featured on CBC TV, BRAVO, The Knowledge Network, Baton, BCTV,
and VTV. She is currently working on her debut CD, and performing
very naughty songs of an explicit nature with "The Wet Spots" (Cass
King & The Orchid Highway's John Woods).
