Using Apache 1.3.6, Mod-SSL 2.3.5-1.3.6, OpenSSL 0.9.3a, PHP 3.0.10 all
built from source under Linux kernel 2.2.9 (Mandrake 6.0 distro) I can
browse through the resulting server using HTTP no problems, but HTTPS
yields Netscape (4.61) complaining about not being able to negotiate
compatibly, and Exploder (5.something) muttering vaguely about errors in
security.
I generated the nice RSA keys with make certificate, tried again doing
everything by hand and making/installing mine own CA and self-signed
keys (1024-bit RSA, DES3) over the existing ones, rah, rah, rah, but it
didn't help. s_client logs in happily, gets the home-page and so on
without complaint. If only I could convince the end-users to deal with
s_client instead of the latest browsers, all would be fine. (-:
BTW, Mandrake comes with mod-SSL built in, but the fsockopen() function
in PHP (3.0.8) is lacking the timeout parameter (fixed in 3.0.9,
naturally...) and I will need that parameter.
Do you have any clues for me?
I've exhausted my stock completely.

There is one very very important thing one must realize before even
attempting to use vi: there are two "modes." Don't ask why. "Why" is
the question the programmers want you to ask; don't give in to the
temptation. -- David Packer
