i think i fixed the mm problem. it looks like mm was not compiled
correctly. However, now I am getting the following error:
/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl startssl

Cannot load /usr/local/apache/libexec/mod_rewrite.so into server: ld.so.1:

/usr/local/apache/bin/apachectl startssl: httpd could not be started
i need mod_rewrite turned on so, i can't just get rid of it.
any suggestions? has anyone run across this error previously?
