Basic Question...Key Pair and CSR generation

Hey Folks,

I've got the instructions for creating a Key Pair and CSR from the
Verisign web site.  I've tried running the command in serveral places on
my box but none can seem to find openssl.  Where do I run the commands
to get this thing to generate a new key pair and CSR?  BTW: mod_ssl is
running as a DSO.
