It would really be helpful if there was a concise but complete document describing the intended behaviour of version objects -- in perl 5.10 as well as in compatibility mode. The reference implementation is supposed to implement these specifications, and prove that they are feasible. Unfortunately, in many cases, "reference implementation" is just another word for "standard by proof-of-concept". -- Johan
