You're a day too early. Try Module::Build 0.2808, just released to CPAN yesterday afternoon, and the test failures should go away. The short answer is that the behavior of version objects changed (against my better judgement) in version-0.72XX, and the testfiles in M::B needed to be updated. Additionally, the 'r' option to cpan is somewhat misleading; in this case, the only place that M::B::Version 0.58 existed was in bleadperl, so you couldn't install it into 5.8.8 if you tried. The latest M::B release fixes that as well.
