Not that I can think of. The fractured install space of Perl is fairly unique.
The "I couldn't/can't update" case can be detected. It's not like it's
"update or fail", just try to update and then continue on.
And when I say "installer" I mean just CPAN or CPANPLUS. It then has the
ability to do additional updates to the build toolchain.
