rationale:
Namespace: although a bi-directional index could be done with other
database technologies this module is quite CDB specific.
Uniqueness: this provides a good interface to huge bi-directional
databases which isn't practical to implement with normal DBMs and
which is much more light weigh than using SQL databases.
