Solaris::mib2 is a Perl extension for collecting Solaris MIB2
(Management Information Base) network statistics. These statistics
provide various feedback regarding the operation of network devices,
such as throughput and overall state of the device. Similar
statistics may be obtained using SNMP (i.e. Net::SNMP) and in fact,
Solaris MIB2 is the source of information for SNMP. However,
Solaris::MIB2 module provides a light-weight interface to
Solaris-specific MIB without the complexity and overhead of SNMP.
The high-level namespace qualifier is chosen to be 'Solaris' since
this extension is specific to Solaris OS. This module may be very
handy for the developers of custom Solaris performance management
tools and is complimentary to another Solaris module by Alan
Burlison - Solaris::Kstat.
