why:
I've been active on PerlMonks 2-3 years, my style has matured some
(some, mind you). I've been recently interested in an area now
called "sports analytics" (formerly "sabermetrics"). There are
established procedures and algorithms in this world that might be
amenable to being regularized and placed on CPAN. An example would
be the simple rankings system that Doug Drinen uses on the Pro
Football Reference web site. I've now rewritten that algorithm 5
different ways, and some of them are getting good enough to consider
archiving them.
My alternative, so you know, would be to wrap it all in
Module::Starter and drop it on github.
