I grabbed 2.6 an built a CentOS 5 rpm for it. It does leak, but CentOS 5 is
also using Python 2.4, so perhaps it will improve when CentOS picks up 2.5.

Unfortunately I have no control over the regular graceful restarts of apache,
they're done to pick up regular configuration changes without killing existing
sessions. We've added a full restart weekly, and as it's an administration
interface to a telephony platform instead of a public website, the restart
likely won't be noticed.

I'll look into the lazy initialization.

Thanks,
Mike
