Ubuntu is getting worse than what Debian used to be as far as having old packages. Even RedHat is starting to be better. Unless someone says something, I don't know of a Ubuntu repository with newer version. I know that 3.3 just went in to unstable of Debian. Thus easier to compile from source code.
