Gerald, I too had the hood up, mainly to stop anything flying out of the car in
the slipstream. Although I was travelling solo, I'd filled most of the
passenger footwell and parcel shelf with stuff necessary for the trip- I also
had my Boot-Bag strapped to the carrier containing my clothes etc. Although the
weather could have been better, I didn't seem to encounter that much rain
whilst I was driving- I haven't taken the hood down so I've yet to see how many
bugs are accumulated there.
Regards, Gerry.

Gerry -
I'm interested to read of your experience as I too, in France around the Le
Mans Classic weekend, experienced an influx of dead insects that covered my
co-driver and me like a load of crumbs. In our case it happened only when the
hood was on and it was raining. Our impression was that the insects were dying
on impact with the windscreen, then being washed by the rain (there was a lot)
through the screen/ hood gap. This was borne out by the large quantity of dead
bugs we later found lodged under the front edge of the hood, as though in the
queue to be washed on to our shirts...
Any other explanations of the dead bug phenomenon?

During my recent tour through France I became aware of a number of dead insects
landing up on my lap. I checked the heater inlet and found the open mesh
'filter' to be a bit damaged. I'm trying to think of some suitable and readily
available substitute for the original- maybe a bit of nylon stocking. Any other
ideas? It needs to be fine enough to stop said insects, but not too restrictive
to the airflow.
