Chips are a rip off these days. You can easily pay a £ or more for a normal portion.
Its not all that long ago since standard price for chips was 6d (2½ p). You also got chips in newspaper (, but with fresh white paper between the chips and newsprint). This probably kept costs down a bit. Now I suppose health and safety nonsense has helped with the changes and price rises. All those horrible polystyrene trays have to be paid for .
