Get any tapered plastic bottle with a lid.  Get two hose clips, one to suit
the bottle, a smaller one to go around the rod going across the car, near
the radiator.  Hold the large clip with the small one.  Put the bottle in
the hose clip.  Fit a pipe from the radiator overflow through a hole in the
lid to the bottom of the bottle.  If you want to retain the overflow pipe,
get some more.  Make a small hole in the lid to let the air in and out.

You will not now lose water.

The air flow across the bottom of the original overflow acts like a scent
spray, continually extracting water.
