Correct. You need to comply with GPL.

 You are correct.
The only thing you're missing is that Cesanta is the copyright holder.
Cesanta's use of mongoose is not under GPL. Similarly, Cesanta sells
commercial non-GPL licenses to companies that do not want to comply with
GPL.
