The change in monit 5.2.5 that grabs the full fqdn makes for an unpleasant change in m/monit listings - I now have a number of sites with the short hostname, and all new sites have the long hostname. This is not a comfortable change; since most users are unlikely to be monitoring sites in more than one domain, this is not a useful change either. At the very least, it should be controlled by a config option, either in monit or m/monit.
