Hi, Monkey was started on 2001... have a dark period of 3 years without development between 2005 and 2008... then we rewrite a lot of it to make it an event-driven model with plugins support and lot of stuff...
Personally i consider Monkey a real stable product and i think that we are ready for 1.0. Most of the people expectations for a 1.0 release is a bunch of features, i would say that our 1.0 is stability. Also its a good time for the release, years of developments, a small community growing, we joined GSoC, etc..
