Sorry, I did not read the word "Ubuntu". Depending on the version of Ubuntu you are using, there are different versions of Mono available in the official repositories. The upcoming release of Ubuntu has Mono 2.10.5 included. Chances are high, that your web service works using an older version of Mono.
