I don't know about full validation, but syntax checking that the XML is parseable can 
trivially be enabled in the XHTML assembler.

I actually purposefully set the assembler to not barf on dubious XHTML in the first 
place because lots of files were still just "normal" HTML. It sounds like you're 
addressing the problem well now though. Should the assembler issue warnings, or stop 
as soon as it encounters bad output?
