I too got this problem a few days ago. According to Miguel, one solution is to install an older snapshot of Mono, say from 10 - 15 days ago (you can use a mono tarball from http://go-mono.com/daily), compile the new (current CVS) mcs assemblies, and then install the new (current CVS) mono. I tried this technique and after a few tries, the hanging problem disappeared. Hopefully this will be helpful in fixing this bug.
