Not long ago, Miguel said it'd be released a couple of months after .NET 4.0 (which was released on Monday). If it's really 30-60 days from now, I guess the plan to skip 2.8 and just call it 3.0 will be scrapped.
By the way, in the Mono 2.8 release notes draft (http://mono-project.com/Release_Notes_Mono_2.8), it says "Preview of the Copying Garbage Collector". "Preview" might imply that it won't be turned on by default, after all. I guess this is still unsure at this point.
