On Windows, Register was huge amount of data, I think that it will be equal in the Windows. This discards the possibility to use flat files.
A good ideia is the use of Berkeley DB. So...What it is better? gdbm , db2 or db3? What do you think about this? Sorry by my english. I promise that I will start to study English.
