I didn't really have a direction to go in when developing the web services code. My main intent was to stub out as much as I could and implement the parts that I understood.
If you have a specific goal in mind, go for it. Start small, define a particular target and then achieve it. I can't really suggest much more than that. Before you get to deep into things, you could discuss ideas on the Mono mailing lists (I have cc'd this response on mono-list), as well as on the Mono IRC channel (irc.gnome.org #mono). Mono is always looking for developers willing to help. I'm not actively developing web services, nor am I likely to in the near future. The project is yours for the taking if you are interested.
