Well _technically_ its not misinformation; because you can get fontconfig from fink/dp if one so chooses; it just happens to be easy and convenient to get it from Apple's X11.

Its also worth noting this is an interim solution, and actually someone looking to contribute to MWF on Mac, this would be a great place.

What needs to be done is:

Refactor libgdiplus to not require fontconfig and allow the cairo_atsui backend to be plugged into place.

Any takers?

I totally spaced that the font stuff still required X11 even though it's not used for displaying windows.

I apologize for spreading misinformation.

Actually; you do need to install X11 on mac to get the font stuff.

You can't run mono foo.exe on mac tho; use macpack (as has been stated
about 120392103 times on this list)

Sigh. You do not have to install X11. There is a native driver as part
of
MWF. If it quits right after start chances are you are running into
something that's not yet implemented. As to where the log ends up on
what
happened, I have to leave that answer to the mac people on this list.

Using X11 is of course possible, but not the intended way of running
MWF Mac
apps.

You have to install X11 from the website of apple.

I had the same problem and now with X11 it works!

Hello all. Trying to run a pretty simple MWF program on my Mac. I
tried doing the "mono diagrammingengine.exe" thing and that didn't
work. Then I saw this post:

So I tried the macpack thing, and that has given me a little
progress.
But it still isn't working. The application will load for about a
second in the tray at the bottom, and then disappear. Any idea? And,
if it is throwing exceptions, any idea how I can get those to get
logged or displayed somwhere where I can see them? Thanks.
